An aging sysadmin discovers that every major outage, market crash, and "black swan" event for twenty years traces back to a single shortened URL that appears in logs right before things go sideways. The link resolves to an ancient video of a cheerful singer dancing in a trenchcoat. Classic rickroll. Except there's something off: the video resolution and outfit change slightly each time it's watched, as if it's being reshot in the present.
When he finally clicks it, instead of playing, his browser just shows a loading spinner and the text: "BUFFERING YOUR TIMELINE." Over the next days, his personal life desyncs: conversations loop, coworkers repeat the same jokes, his coffee un-spills itself, and each time, somewhere in the background, the singer appears for one frame, a little closer.

He learns that the original prank was never supposed to spread. The first rickroll was an accidental leak of an experimental temporal compression algorithm: a video that could compress regret by replaying the past until the "viewer" made the choice they were least ashamed of. The problem: the algorithm applied itself to everyone who ever saw the link.
